Gas stations in California can have two types of underground fuel tanks, single wall-tanks, or double-wall tanks.
As the name suggests, single-wall tanks have one tank layer holding the fuel. Alternatively, double-wall tanks have a first layer surrounded by a second, slightly larger containment layer. This second layer can catch any leaks that might occur from the first layer.
If your gas station in California has single-wall tanks, it is important to note that you are required to remove and replace these single-wall tanks with double wall tanks by December 31st, 2025.
